MV Kudhi Maa Wreck
Level: Advanced Open Water
Distance from Centara Grand: Shore Dive (10 minutes swim from Dive Centre)
Situated on Machchafushi House Reef, MV Kudhi Maa was a Japanese freighter, 51 metres long and 8 metres wide. The main hull is a big space with a water tank at one end, on deck there is a large crane and a largely intact bridge area. This 1,200 ton freighter was purposely sunk in 1999 and is now a haven for an array of sea dwellers. Stingrays and nurse sharks can be found sheltering near the bottom, shrimps, shoals of reef fish, moray eels, large schools of glass fish, snapper and trevally make this artificial reef their home, and if you’re lucky you may spot a whit-tip reef shark too. Don’t forget to search for the resident stone fish & frog fish that hide very well here. Also spend some time on the beautiful house reef full of pristine corals.
